2 Samuel Part 3: When Silence Costs Too Much

Feb 22, 2026    Andrew Jackson

At Hope Valley Church in Denver, we believe the Bible speaks to real life, even the hard parts. In 2 Samuel 13:21, we see a painful moment in King David’s family. Something deeply wrong happens, David is rightly furious… and then nothing. No action. Just silence.

It challenges us to ask: where are we staying quiet when we need courage? We all have “drafts” in our lives – words we haven’t said, boundaries we haven’t set, apologies we haven’t offered. Silence can come from fear, shame, exhaustion, or just wanting to keep the peace. But when problems go unaddressed, they usually grow.

This isn’t about overreacting. It’s about Spirit-led courage: trusting God with the outcome and speaking truth in love when He calls us to. The good news? Our past silence doesn’t disqualify us. Because of Jesus, grace gives us a fresh start and the confidence to take our next step, not in ourselves but in God.
