INTRO TO SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES

Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:7

Spiritual Disciplines (also called Holy Habits, or Spiritual Practices) are methods of connecting with God so that he can form us into His likeness.

Check out these videos for an introduction to spiritual disciplines. These videos are part of the "How to Church" membership series.

BIBLE STUDY
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16)
PRAYER
(individual and corporate)
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
WORSHIP
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful. By it, we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe,  for our God is a consuming fire.
(Hebrews 12:28-29)
GENEROSITY
"Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over—will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38)
SERVICE
Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people,  knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3:23-24)
FASTING
Isn’t this the fast I choose: To break the chains of wickedness, to untie the ropes of the yoke, to set the oppressed free, and to tear off every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, to bring the poor and homeless into your house, to clothe the naked when you see him, and not to ignore your own flesh and blood? Then your light will appear like the dawn, and your recovery will come quickly. Your righteousness will go before you, and the Lord’s glory will be your rear guard.
(Isaiah 58:6-8)
REST (SABBATH)
Therefore, while the promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear so that none of you should miss it.
(Hebrews 4:1)
SILENCE & SOLITUDE
Jesus was  “led by the Spirit into the wilderness” (Matthew 4:1), “went out to a desolate place” (Mark 1:35; Luke 4:42), and “went up on the mountain by himself to pray . . . alone” (Matthew 14:23).
FELLOWSHIP
I, therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk worthy of the calling you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, accepting one another in love, diligently keeping the unity of the Spirit with the peace that binds [us]. (Ephesians 4:1-3)
