Speak, Lord Part 3: Conversation

Jan 18, 2026    David Hermes

In a city full of noise and constant motion, God is still speaking. The question isn’t whether He is speaking, but whether we’ve positioned our hearts to hear Him. In Isaiah 6, we see that Isaiah didn’t initiate the conversation, God did. He was already speaking about what was on His heart before Isaiah ever responded.

That truth reshapes how we approach prayer. So often, we come to God with our lists – our stress, our pain, our needs – expecting Him to fix what feels urgent. But God, in His grace, goes deeper. Like a good physician, He treats the source, not just the symptoms. He speaks to root issues we may not even recognize, because He knows us better than we know ourselves.

God communicates with us just as He always has, through Scripture, creation, His people, and ultimately through Jesus. The Holy Spirit helps us hear and understand what God is saying. But the challenge is the noise. Weariness, anxiety, busyness, distraction, and spiritual resistance can all make it hard to hear the God who longs to speak.

So the invitation is clear: turn down the noise. Confess what needs confessing. Make space for stillness. And trust God enough to slow down, listen, and be still, knowing that He is God.
