Living Stones
What does it mean to be a living stone? In 1 Peter 2:4-6, Peter paints a vivid picture of the church as a spiritual house, built not from cold, lifeless rock, but from people who have come to Christ, the chief cornerstone, and are being shaped and fitted together for a purpose far greater than any one of us.
Coming to Christ is not a one-time event but an ongoing, daily practice of alignment. Just as a cornerstone sets the direction for every stone that follows, Jesus sets the direction for how we live, how we love, and how we build community together. The more regularly we come to him, the more we are chiseled and refined, our rough edges smoothed, our dimensions brought into line with his. This is not a passive process. It is a call to show up, to be present, to let the Word of God do its work in us so that we can fit well alongside every other stone in the house. The relevance to our own faith journey could not be more direct. Are we coming to him regularly, or are we trying to build on our own terms?
