Living Stones Part 2

Aug 9, 2026    David Hermes

What does it mean to truly be alive in Christ? Not just going through the motions, not just showing up and checking boxes, but genuinely, deeply alive? That is the question at the heart of this message drawn from 1 Peter 2:4-9, where we are described as living stones being built together into a spiritual house. The passage reminds us that we are chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, called out of darkness into light.

But the word living is where things get interesting. Living stones respond to their environment. They feel the correction of God. They miss His presence when they have drifted. They are stirred by the things of His Kingdom.

This message challenges us to do an honest pulse check on our spiritual vitality and asks whether we have settled into a kind of comfortable spiritual numbness that looks more like death than life.

The good news woven throughout is that our aliveness does not begin with our own choosing. It begins with His. God, rich in mercy, draws near to us even in our deadness and invites us into something real, something lasting, something worth being fully present for.
