PSALM 77 LAYING IT DOWN | PASTOR DAVID HERMES

Dec 28, 2025    David Hermes

This Sunday, we reflected on Psalm 77 and the honest cry of a heart wrestling with doubt, fear, and unanswered questions. The psalmist doesn’t hide his struggle; instead, he brings it directly to God. In moments when God feels distant and hope seems thin, Psalm 77 reminds us that faith doesn’t mean pretending everything is okay—it means choosing to remember who God has been.

As the psalm unfolds, the focus shifts from distress to remembrance: “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago” (Psalm 77:11). The psalmist looks back on God’s faithfulness—His power, His guidance, His deliverance—and finds renewed confidence, even when the present still feels uncertain. This passage teaches us that when our emotions are shaky, remembering God’s past faithfulness can anchor our faith.

Through Psalm 77, we’re reminded that God welcomes our questions and our honesty. He meets us in the middle of our wrestling and invites us to trust Him again by remembering His character and works. No matter what season you’re in, God is still writing your story, even when you can’t yet see the outcome.

Our hope is that this message encourages you to bring your whole self—questions and all—before God, trusting that He is faithful and near.
